Become an APEX MEmber

APEX membership is based on contributions to the knowledge base for porphyrias and/or heme biosynthesis. There are four types of membership:

  • Internationally recognized authority with a doctoral degree (MD, PhD or equivalent), a minimum 10 years’ experience, and 10 or more pertinent peer-reviewed articles as first, co-first, corresponding, or last author. The Board of Directors may also approve a Director/Associate Director of a Porphyrias Consortium Center for Porphyrias Expertise.

    Benefits
    Expert Members have voting rights, will be entitled to reduced registration fees for symposia and other events, the opportunity to join Working Groups, to participate in the annual General Meeting and to be nominated for Board of Directors or other elected positions 

    Annual Membership Fee
    $250

The Board of Directors may also approve a Director of a Porphyrias Consortium Satellite Center of Porphyrias Expertise.

    Associate Experts have voting rights, will be entitled to reduced registration fees for symposia and other events, the opportunity to join Working Groups, to participate in the annual General Meeting and to be nominated for Board of Directors or other elected positions 

    Annual Membership Fee
    $250 

  • Impartial and non-political patient groups focused on efforts to improve the education, awareness, care and treatment of patients and families with the eight major porphyrias and their variants.

    Benefits
    Advocacy Group an attend or send a representative to the Annual General meeting, but do not have voting rights. Advocacy groups will be invited to join with other such groups and have a special session at annual or Biennial symposia or other educational APEX meetings. 

    Annual Membership Fee
    $100 

  • A public or private corporation involved in the diagnosis and/or treatment of the Porphyrias, including diagnostic laboratories, biotech companies developing new treatments or cures, drug distributors and clinical research organizations that provide research or laboratory services for clinical trials, or companies that promote education to porphyria patients.

    Benefits
    Industry/Corporate members can attend or send a representative to the Annual General meeting but do not have voting rights. Industry/corporate members, including diagnostic laboratories, will be invited to meet with the Board of Directors annually.   

    Membership Fee
    To be agreed upon on case-by-case basis.
