Research Grants

The American Porphyrias Expert Collaborative is pleased to offer research grant opportunities each year. The purpose of these grants is to promote basic, translational, and clinical research in human heme biosynthesis and the porphyrias, aiming to discover new insights that benefit the health and well-being of porphyria patients and families worldwide, as well as encourage and support young academic investigators in their research and training within this field.  

Applicants must be Assistant or Associate Professors at an academic medical school or university. Certain grants may only be available to current Associate or Full Members of APEX in good standing. Award amounts range based on the grant type.

Use of Funds

The American Porphyrias Expert Collaborative (APEX) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing high-quality research aimed at improving the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of the porphyrias. APEX provides research funding to qualified investigators at accredited universities and research institutions. To ensure that contributed funds are used responsibly and primarily toward scientific advancement, all APEX research awards are subject to a maximum indirect cost rate of ten percent (10%).
